My dear and delightful friend Jane Beaven is eighty-five years old. For many years, she and her husband John poured creativity and hard work into a beautiful garden. It is walled in, creating a secluded spot where squirrels, and robins, and even deer are welcome amongst the crabapple trees and sweetly-scented blooms. It was this garden—Jane’s Garden—that inspired this collection of paintings. As I spent time there last year, watching the brown branches and bare dirt gave way to a frenzy of glorious life, I knew I was witnessing something special and transformative.
Impressions of Spring is a loose and vivid rendering of watching Spring come to the garden.
